What are the UN Global Goals?

In 2015, UN member states adopted a universal agenda, Agenda 2030, for sustainable development with the vision that by 2030:
- eradicate poverty and hunger
- respect human rights for all
- achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls and
- ensure the protection of the planet and its natural resources.

In order to achieve the 2030 Agenda, and thus sustainable development, the UN has divided the overall goals of the 2030 Agenda into 17Sustainable Development Goals( SDGs).

All 17 SDGs are equally important and interdependent in one way or another.

"The 2030 Agenda articulates the overarching vision for what the world should look like by 2030 and the Global Goals provide a more detailed blueprint for what the world's countries must achieve to achieve social, economic and environmental sustainable development."

The 17 Global Goals are universal, integrated, inclusive and apply to everyone.

The fact that all 17 goals are interdependent means, in simple terms, that failing to achieve one goal can have a negative impact on the others. It can also be the other way around, meeting one of these 17 goals can have positive effects on the others.
