1. Hi David! We have seen troubled times and with what looks like a declining economy - is there any risk that sustainability will end up further down the agenda and if so, what is important to counteract it?
Of course there is a risk, and I find it difficult to make a general statement. At the same time, I think many companies today are aware that working with sustainability is almost a matter of hygiene. And in some areas, I think it can have positive effects. The increase in fuel and energy prices is speeding up the transition to fossil-free transportation and increased self-production of renewable electricity, as well as increasing the focus on energy efficiency and energy savings.
2. What knowledge about sustainability is important to have if you work at your company?
The real estate industry accounts for a large part of the total carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden, especially in the construction phase. We are also major energy users. Therefore, these are naturally important areas to focus on. Another area where you as a property owner can make a difference is to work with sustainable urban development and local social sustainability by, for example, promoting health, safety, integration and recreation, but also service provision and access to sustainable communications.
3 . What is the focus for you at Backahill in the area of sustainability in the near future and why?
With reference to the above question, we have the ambition to increase the pace of our activities linked to reducing our climate impact, both in the construction phase and in management. We are good at sustainable urban and community development, and we will continue to do it well.
