Christina Kusoffsky Hillesöy, Sustainability Manager at Länsförsäkringar answers three questions.
2022-02-22
1. Hi Christina, 2022 is here and the EU Taxonomy has partially entered into force.
What is the focus for you at Länsförsäkringar?
We set an ambitious climate target last year to become climate positive by 2045.
A key area to achieve this goal is to continue to sharpen our investment offering with responsible and sustainable savings products. We will continue to reduce climate emissions in our own funds and investment portfolios, invest in companies and projects that contribute to sustainable development and influence companies to reduce their climate impact. We will also support companies that have set ambitious climate targets and are in transition.
2. At Länsförsäkringar, you have invested heavily in educating your staff since autumn 2021, with Certification - Sustainability in Finance and now in 2022 with an annual sustainability knowledge update.
What impact do you want to achieve with this major training effort?
Wemade a big effort and certified more than 2,000 employees and board members within Länsförsäkringar in sustainability in 2021. For us, sustainability is a strategic issue and it is therefore important to create a common base of knowledge. Sustainability issues are becoming increasingly complex and we wanted to increase our understanding of how different regulations and international initiatives are interrelated and affect our business.
Increased knowledge means that more employees can be involved in driving sustainability work forward and incorporating it into their daily work and customer meetings. The engagement and response from those who have attended the training has been very positive.
3. In addition to climate and environmental issues, what other sustainability areas are particularly in focus in 2022 and why?
On theinvestment side, we focus not only on climate issues but also on other ESG issues. The Disclosure and Taxonomy Regulations will have a major impact on how we report our work on all ESG issues.
Other issues that are important to us are loss prevention. The best sustainability work a property insurer can do is to make sure an accident does not happen. This is a win-win for the environment, the individual affected and society at large. We will continue to focus on loss prevention efforts and to repair in a sustainable manner if an accident does occur. Another area of focus is our local community engagement aimed at children and young people. By having a local presence across Sweden, we can see what local community efforts make a difference.
